Artist's BiographySaxophonist/Multi instrumentalist Billy Carrión Jr. did not start in the traditional ways that most do: lessons, camps, college; Billy instead started with his love of music. Primarily self taught, Billy believes the baritone saxophone was his voice from the beginning. \"Even though most saxophones and woodwinds came easy enough to me, the baritone saxophone seemed like the challenge I wanted to endure for my career. Learning other instruments like percussion and bass has really brought more confidence to playing my baritone.\"
Billy\'s career started \"the old school route,\" which means he was given a chance when a band was in need. That band was called Cowboy Rhumba, and had some serious musicians including David Oquendo, Professor Joe, Robbie Ameen, among others. That was the turning point. Since then, he has exploded on the music scene, spanning many genres. Billy has been blessed to play as a side man alongside musicians like Eddie Palmieri, Ray Barretto, Ruben Rodriguez, Joe Magnarelli, Tom Vella And The Wayside, United Nation, The Fiendz, Nestor Torres, Jerry Medina Paoli Mejias, Papo Vazquez, Los Pleneros De La 21, and many others. He has been seen in festivals such as Toro Y Salsa, The Caramoor Jazz Festival, The Heineken Jazz Festival, To name a few.
He is currently the baritone saxophonist for Henry Cole And The Afrobeat Collective, the musical director of his fathers orchestra, The Billy Carrion Sr. Orchestra, as well as performs as the horn specialist and arranger for Big Blue Meanie Studios. Billy\'s first album as leader, \"Transformed Conceptions,\" is currently out on iTunes and Google play.
