Artist's BiographyPhilip Jones is an extremely versatile trombonist, equally at home on tenor or bass, playing in jazz, big band, Dixieland, or classical styles. As a vocalist, Philip is often found with both small jazz groups and big bands. A student of Dr. Thomas Streeter and Lewis Van Haney of the New York Philharmonic, Philipâ€™s jazz abilities were recognized early on a national level, being chosen for Downbeat magazineâ€™s All Star College Jazz Band two years in a row. He was also playing with stars like Buddy Rich and Chuck Mangione while he was still in school.
Before finishing graduate school, Philip was hired by Danny Davis and the
Nashville Brass, and began a 17-year association with the group, which won several Grammys, platinum, and gold albums, in addition to being named Country Music Instrumental Group of the Year 7 years in a row. Philip was staff trombonist for RCA Nashville, Opryland Productions, and TNN, and performed or recorded with the biggest names in the business.
