Artist's BiographyRob James is currently Chair of the Department of Music at Eastern Kentucky University and served as Director of Percussion Studies 1988-1998. During that time he took his ensembles to various performance venues including BOA, PAS, WGI, and several percussion festivals. 1986-88, he served as keyboard instructor/arranger of the Cadets of Bergen County Drum and Bugle Corps. As an active educator, Rob founded the IAJE KY Chapter, the KMEA All-State Jazz Ensemble, the KMEA All-Collegiate Jazz Ensemble, and jazz events for KMEA. During most of his tenure as director of percussion studies, Rob held offices as both vice-President and President of the KY Chapter of PAS and the KY Chapter of IAJE. For several years, Professor James served as President of the Kentucky Association of College Music Departments and continues to be active in MENC and PAS.
Rob has performed with the Detroit Symphony, Spoleto Music Festival International Orchestra, Warren Symphony, Richmond Symphony, Lexington Philharmonic, and the Kentucianna Brass and Percussion Ensemble. He has conducted clinics at Mid-West Band and Orchestra Clinic, IAJE, PASIC, MENC National Conference, KMEA, ITG, and various percussion festivals. He is endorsed by Ludwig/Musser, Vic Firth, Inc, Advedis Zildjian Company, and Mike Balter Mallets.
