We have an opening within our Quality team for an Instrument Technician. The position is based in Elkhart, Indiana at our South Production facility and reports to the Director of Quality. This is a new hybrid position that combines the activities of Play Tester, Repairs and Quality Technician supporting a number of team initiatives.
The Instrument Technician is responsible for inspection, play test, the adjustment of instruments and components and supporting the Quality initiatives across the Conn-Selmer Woodwind portfolio. This position works closely with Operations, Purchasing and our Product Management team to ensure Right First Time Quality of our instruments and effectively documents and communicates the data found throughout this process to increase overall product quality.
Supports Conn-Selmer Quality Management System by assisting with inspections, play tests, and adjustments of instruments/components and communicating results in accordance with Conn-Selmer established procedures
Assists in the development and implementation of inspection and audit schedules
Performs inspections, adjustments and verifications as required for each instrument
Accepts, rejects or quarantines product per established standards and protocols
Performs inspections and packaging responsibilities as necessary
Leads and/or assists in problem solving methodologies and corrective actions
Assists with inventory reviews and provides input to product disposition
Assist in 5S and Lean Manufacturing projects as assigned by the facility Quality lead
Flexibility to work in all areas of the facility and support other duties as assigned by the facility Quality lead
Repair school graduate with 3 years’ experience or equivalent qualification
Associates degree in quality, engineering, instrumental music or equivalent experience
Background in instrumental music with woodwind performance proficiency preferred
A working knowledge of the musical instrument business
Certified Conn-Selmer Quality Auditor/Inspector or equivalent experience
Green Belt Six Sigma preferred
Proficient in the English language with excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to use small hand tools and measuring instruments
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (e.g.: Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
Ability to work independently as a self-starter with an expectation for positive results
Ability to walk and/or stand for majority of shift
Vision correctable to 20/20
Ability to safely lift up to 40 pounds unassisted
Ability to perform repetitive work for a prolonged period
Exposure to manufacturing environment including dust, noise and vibration
Frequent kneeling, crouching, bending, stooping, reaching and pushing carts
