What do Devonshire, Somerset and Exeter have in common with William Lewis & Son stringed instruments? These English regions name the newest models offered by William Lewis & Son. William Lewis was a prodigy violinist, raised in Devonshire England, traveled to America in the 1850’s and sought to provide quality instruments for student musicians by founding the William Lewis music company. His mission is carried on today in the newest models that augment the existing William Lewis & Son string instrument collection.
The new Devonshire series of student instruments encompasses ½, ¾ and full size violin outfits and viola outfits sized from 11” to 14”, as well as cellos in ½, ¾ and full size. The Somerset line of premium student models includes flame maple spirit finish violins in ½, ¾ and full size outfits and flame maple spirit finish viola outfits from 12” to 14”. The Exeter string bass is an excellent Romanian instrument available in ¼, ½, and standard ¾ size outfits with adjustable bridge standard. All Devonshire, Somerset and Exeter instruments feature ebony fittings and are set up/adjusted in the Cleveland Ohio string shop.
