Elkhart, IN—September 10th, 2018 – The Conn-Selmer Division of Education announces Tennessee State University, Nashville Tennessee, to its growing list of institutions who are part of the Conn-Selmer School Partnership Program. The program provides access to discounted instrument purchases and leasing, Conn-Selmer Educational Clinicians, instrument inventory assessment, and scholarships for both students and directors to attend Conn-Selmer Institute - the preeminent annual event focused on advancing music education across the nation.
Conn-Selmer partnered with Tennessee State’s Director of Bands, Dr. Reginald McDonald, to facilitate this long- term partnership. Dr. McDonald has been teaching at TSU since 2001. He commented “Conn-Selmer is recognized as a world leader in manufacturing musical instruments. Their professionalism and expertise are second to none. Many of my instrumental music education colleagues, too numerous to count, in conversation consistently bestow KUDOS upon Conn-Selmer and their experience with Mr. Stoner and Mr. Kamphuis. As a clinician with the Conn-Selmer Division of Education, I have experienced instant credibility because of the company name standing with and supporting me.”
The Tennessee State University Band program consists of the marching band “ The Aristocrat of Bands,” Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Jazz Collegians, Jazz Band II, and small ensembles for every instrument. The Marching Band was invited to perform in the inaugural parades for both John F. Kennedy and Bill Clinton, making history as one of only three historically black colleges to be afforded the honor of marching in such a coveted event.
Conn-Selmer Managing Director of the Division of Education, Michael Kamphuis commented, “We are proud to partner with the legendary HBCU Tennessee State University Aristocrat of Bands led by Dr. Reginald McDonald. We had the opportunity to meet with the staff this past year when they visited our factories in Elkhart, Indiana. The passion they show for the students is amazing and we are honored to supply them with world-class instruments in support their 2018-2019 performance season as part of our Conn-Selmer Partnership Program. We look forward to a great long-term relationship with the program.”
