  Biography

George R. Boulden serves as Associate Professor of Music and Associate Director of Bands at the University of Kentucky, where he also conducts the Symphony Band. He teaches conducting and music technology in the UK School of Music. Previously, he taught in the public schools of South Carolina and Florida. In 2011 Boulden was selected as the Kentucky Music Educators Association College/University Teacher of the Year.

Under Boulden’s direction from 1995-2008, the Wildcat Marching Band and Basketball Pep Band served as musical ambassadors through performances at the Outback Bowl, three Music City Bowl games, a Bands of America Regional Championship, and three NCAA Final Four Basketball Championship games. The Symphony Band was also a featured ensemble at several conferences.

Boulden has served as an adjudicator, clinician, and guest conductor throughout the United States and Canada. He has presented lectures and clinics at the Midwest International Band & Orchestra Clinic, Music Educators National Conference National Convention, National Band Association National Conventions, and many others He contributes to numerous publications, including Teaching Music Through Performance In Band series, Bluegrass Music News and Music Educators Journal.

Boulden has appeared as a performer with The Lexington Brass Band and on their CD. Under his direction, the UK Basketball Pep Band released a CD titled The Kentucky Wildcat Basketball Experience, and a second recording, The Best of the UK Pep Band.

His professional affiliations include the Kentucky Music Educators Association, Music Educators National Conference, National Band Association, Phi Beta Mu, Kappa Kappa Psi, Phi Mu Alpha, Pi Kappa Lambda, Phi Kappa Phi, College Band Directors National Association and Tau Beta Sigma, the national band service sorority.

Boulden holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education degree from the University of Kentucky and a Master of Music Education degree from the University of South Carolina. While on a sabbatical during 2005-06, George served as a doctoral teaching assistant with the University Bands at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, and completed coursework for the doctorate in music education (ABD).
